Multiple-line text
The Multiline Text option type allows customers to enter longer pieces of text in a field that supports multiple lines. This is ideal for collecting detailed information or longer inputs, such as special instructions, comments, or descriptions. The text field expands vertically to accommodate the length of the input, providing a larger area for customers to type their responses.
Basic option settings
1. Option Name:
This is the internal label used to identify the Multiline Text option within the app's settings. It helps you organize and manage the option but does not appear on the storefront product page.
2. Label on Product
This is the text displayed above the Multiline Text input field on the product page. It provides a prompt or description to guide customers on what type of information they should enter, such as "Enter your message" or "Provide additional details."
3. Label on Cart
This is the text that appears on the Cart summary screen, Checkout, and Order detail page next to the customer's entered text. It helps identify and display the specific details or comments provided by the customer.
4. Add-On Product:
For the Multiline Text option type, the Add-On Product feature allows you to apply an additional charge based on the content entered in the text field. When a customer submits text, a predefined extra charge can be automatically applied to the product's price.
5. Conditional Logic
This allows you to set rules that determine when the Multiline Text field should be shown or hidden based on other selections made by the customer. For example, you could configure the text field to appear only if the customer selects a specific product customization option.
Advanced option settings
1. Required Field
This setting specifies whether the Multiline Text field must be filled out by the customer before they can proceed with their purchase. If enabled, the customer must enter text; if disabled, the field can be left empty.
2. Hide "Label on Product"
This option allows you to hide the label that typically appears above the Multiline Text field on the product page. This can be useful for simplifying the interface or if the label is not necessary for the customer's understanding.
3. Min/Max Character
These settings define the minimum and maximum number of characters that customers can enter into the Multiline Text field. For example, you can set a minimum of 10 characters and a maximum of 500 characters to ensure the input meets specific criteria.
4. Input Type
This setting specifies the format of the text input, such as plain text or text with numbers. It controls what kind of content can be entered into the Multiline Text field.
5. Default Value
This is the pre-filled text that appears in the Multiline Text field by default. It can be used to provide an example or instruction for customers, which they can then modify or replace.
6. Text Transform
This setting controls how the text entered by customers is displayed, such as converting it to uppercase, lowercase, or capitalizing the first letter of each word. It ensures consistent text formatting according to your preferences.
7. Tooltip
This setting allows you to provide additional information in a pop-up message when the customer hovers over the information icon. It provides brief, contextual information without cluttering the interface.
8. Help Text
This setting displays directly beneath the Text option, offering more detailed explanations or instructions. It remains visible as users interact with the form, providing ongoing support and clarity.
9. Placeholder Text
This is the greyed-out text that appears within the Multiline Text field before the customer enters any information. It offers a hint or example of what should be entered, such as "Enter your special instructions here."
10. Class Name
This setting allows you to assign a custom CSS class to the Multiline Text field. It helps in applying specific styles or behaviors to the field based on your design requirements.
